Updated through August 2026.
Micro K’NEX uses a smaller rod and connector system than Classic K’NEX. The regular straight rods are available in seven nominal lengths, from approximately 14 mm to 200 mm.

The original Micro K’NEX colour sequence is useful for recognising the most common rods, but it is not a complete colour guide. Additional colours were produced for later sets and product ranges, including K’NEX Architecture. These are ordinary Micro K’NEX rods in different colours, not a separate Architecture rod system.
Dimensions shown below are nominal or approximate K’NEX dimensions. Individual parts, particularly Flexi rods, may measure slightly shorter or longer.
Straight Micro K’NEX Rods
| Nominal length | Part no. | Colour |
|---|---|---|
| 14 mm | 509502 | Black |
| 509503 | Tan | |
| 25 mm | 509512 | Yellow |
| 509513 | Red | |
| 509514 | White | |
| 509515 | Bronze | |
| 509516 | Tan | |
| 509517 | Grey / light grey | |
| 40 mm | 509522 | Dark grey |
| 509522C | Clear | |
| 509523 | Red | |
| 509524 | White | |
| 509525 | Bronze | |
| 509526 | Tan | |
| 63 mm | 509532 | Red |
| 509533 | White | |
| 509534 | Bronze | |
| 94 mm | 509542 | Purple |
| 509543 | White | |
| 138 mm | 509552 | Blue |
| 509554 | Bronze | |
| 200 mm | 530302 | Orange |
| 530303 | Transparent |
The commonly encountered original colour sequence is:
14 mm Black → 25 mm Yellow → 40 mm Dark Grey → 63 mm Red → 94 mm Purple → 138 mm Blue → 200 mm Orange.
These colours should not be used as the sole method of identification. For example, a 25-mm Micro rod may be yellow, red, white, bronze, tan or grey. A 40-mm rod is known in dark grey, clear, red, white, bronze and tan.
The K’NEX User Group identifies the ordinary Micro range simply as Micro K’NEX Rod, rather than Rigid Rod.
Colours used in K’NEX Architecture
Several of the less common colours can be traced particularly clearly through the K’NEX Architecture sets.
The Golden Gate Bridge used a strong red selection, including red 25-mm, 40-mm and 63-mm rods.
The London Eye used white rods in several lengths, together with transparent components.
The Eiffel Tower made extensive use of bronze Micro K’NEX parts.
The Empire State Building added extensive use of tan, bronze and grey.
These remain ordinary Micro K’NEX rods and are therefore included in the main table rather than classified separately. K’NEX parts documentation confirms, among others, 509514 White 25 mm, 509515 Bronze 25 mm, 509525 Bronze 40 mm, 509534 Bronze 63 mm, 509543 White 94 mm, 509554 Bronze 138 mm and 530303 Transparent 200 mm.
Flexi Micro K’NEX Rods
Micro K’NEX also includes flexible rods.

| Nominal length | Part no. | Colour |
|---|---|---|
| 63 mm | 509535 | Red |
| 200 mm | 530304 | Bronze |
The nominal length should be used for catalogue identification even when a physical Flexi rod measures a few millimetres differently.
530304, for example, is documented as a Micro K’NEX Flexi Rod 200 mm Bronze.
Curved Micro parts — identification note

Two curved Micro components are included here because they are recorded and physically identified as 105-mm curved Micro rods:
| Length | Part no. | Colour | Identification |
|---|---|---|---|
| 105 mm | 3310022 | Blue | Curved Micro part / rod* |
| 105 mm | 3310085 | Green | Curved Micro part / rod* |
*Terminology is not fully consistent. These parts have also been described as curved track in K’NEX documentation. Their existence, part numbers and colours are not in question; the uncertainty concerns their most appropriate classification as rod or track.
They are therefore retained on this page with the uncertainty stated explicitly.
This should not be confused with 3310052 and 3310049, which are treated as ordinary Micro track parts and are not included in the rod list.
Titanfall special rod
The K’NEX Titanfall range also contains a Micro-format rod that resembles the regular 138-mm Micro rod but differs from it physically.

| Approx. length | Part no. | Colour / range | Identification |
|---|---|---|---|
| approx. 136–138 mm | Not yet verified | Titanfall / Titan | Special Micro-format rod |
The exact nominal length and official individual K’NEX part number have not yet been verified.
For that reason, this component is included rather than omitted, but it should not currently be identified as 509552, 509554 or another standard 138-mm Micro rod.
Further information about this component and other unusual parts from the range is provided with the Titanfall / Titan special parts.
Related transition rods
K’NEX also produced rods specifically for connecting the Micro and Classic systems.
These transition rods are not ordinary Micro rods and are therefore not duplicated in the tables above. They include both 21-mm and 37-mm versions.
See K’NEX Adapters, Transition & Dual-System Parts for transition rods, reducer clips and other components that connect Micro K’NEX with Classic K’NEX or K’NEX Bricks.
Identifying a Micro K’NEX rod
Where possible, identify a rod using a combination of:
Part number — the strongest identifier when known.
Nominal length — physical measurements may vary slightly.
Shape or function — straight, Flexi, curved or special.
Colour — useful, but not unique to one rod length.
Set or series context — useful for unusual colours and special parts.
Later K’NEX ranges used many alternative colours, so a rod should not be rejected as a particular size merely because its colour differs from the traditional Micro colour sequence.
