Micro K’NEX has its own roller-coaster system, with purpose-built track, coaster cars and ride-related parts. The smaller scale makes it possible to build long tracks and complex layouts on relatively compact supporting structures.
Some Micro K’NEX attractions combine Micro coaster parts with Classic K’NEX rods, connectors, motors or transition parts. On K’NEXCHANGE, the ride system determines where an attraction is shown. A coaster using Micro track and Micro coaster cars therefore belongs here even when part of its supporting structure is built with Classic K’NEX.
Micro K’NEX coaster cars

Unlike the earliest Classic K’NEX roller coasters, Micro K’NEX uses purpose-built coaster cars.
Several types exist:
- standard coaster cars in different colours;
- follower cars;
- underhung cars;
- light-up coaster cars;
- cars designed for launchers;
- air-propelled coaster cars;
- links for connecting compatible cars.
This variety reflects the development of the Micro coaster system across different sets and generations.
Two generations of Micro K’NEX coaster track

Micro K’NEX coaster track exists in two different connection systems:
No-pin track
The track sections connect directly to each other using moulded plastic tabs and slots. No separate metal connecting pins are used.
Pin-jointed track
The ends of the track sections are joined using small metal pins. These pins form the joint between successive sections and make this version easy to recognise.
⚠️ Important when identifying or combining track
No-pin and pin-jointed track belong to different generations of the Micro K’NEX coaster system. Although they serve the same purpose and can look similar at first sight, their end connections are different and the two types do not connect directly to each other.
When identifying loose Micro K’NEX coaster track, check the connection type first, followed by the track shape, length, colour and part number.
Straight coaster track

Straight Micro K’NEX coaster track occurs in different lengths and colours.
Two important sizes are approximately 203 mm and 410 mm. Earlier track variants also occur with different joining arrangements.
Colours found across the different versions include black, blue, green, orange, red, white, yellow and glow-in-the-dark variants.
Part numbers can differ according to length, colour and generation, so visually similar track pieces are not necessarily identical.
Left and right curved track

Curved Micro K’NEX track is directional. Left-hand and right-hand curves are separate parts.
Both types occur in several colours. Examples include black, blue, green, orange, red, white, yellow and glow-in-the-dark variants.
When identifying loose track, the direction of the curve is therefore just as important as its colour.
Semi-circle track

A second distinctive curved track type forms a much tighter semi-circle, approximately 24 cm in diameter.
Semi-circle sections are known in several colours, including:
- black;
- blue;
- green;
- orange;
- red;
- white;
- yellow;
- glow-in-the-dark.
These sections should not be confused with the separate left- and right-hand curved track pieces.
Different track generations
Not all Micro K’NEX coaster track uses the same joining system.
Earlier versions include pin-jointed track, while later track uses a different moulded connection between successive sections. Track pieces from different generations may look similar but are not necessarily directly interchangeable.
For identification, check the connection at the end of the track as well as its shape, length and colour.


Launchers and special coaster cars
Some Micro K’NEX coasters use mechanisms other than a conventional gravity start or chain lift.
Specialised parts include Slingshot Launchers, matching launcher coaster cars and later air-propelled coaster components. Light-up coaster cars add another attraction-specific function.
These parts are treated here as part of the Micro ride system while retaining their individual identification in the Parts catalogue.
Chain lifts and other ride-related parts
Motorised Micro coasters can use a chain lift to carry the coaster car to the top of the track.
Specialised components include the Micro K’NEX Chain Guide and the smaller K’NEX chain used with Micro mechanisms.

Motors, gears and chain also have their own established parts families on K’NEXCHANGE. They are referenced here only where they help explain how a ride works and are not duplicated as separate ride-only parts.
Classic and Micro K’NEX together
A Micro K’NEX attraction does not have to be built entirely from Micro parts.
Classic rods and connectors can form part of the supporting structure, while transition parts allow Classic and Micro construction to meet. Motors and other functional components may also come from the wider K’NEX system.
The classification remains Micro K’NEX Rides & Attractions when the actual coaster or ride system is Micro.
This avoids listing the same hybrid attraction twice.
Figures, scenery and special effects
Some attractions include figures, decorative elements, graphic panels, lighting, sound or other set-specific parts.
Where such a component is important for recognising a particular attraction, it can be referenced on K’NEXCHANGE without changing its main parts family.
This allows the ride pages to show how specialised components were used while avoiding unnecessary duplication throughout the catalogue.
