Micro K’NEX roller coasters use dedicated coaster cars and flexible plastic track. Over the years, K’NEX produced several car designs, track shapes, colors and launcher systems.

An important distinction is the track connection system. Earlier Micro K’NEX coaster track uses metal pins and corresponding holes, while later track uses molded plastic lugs and slots. These two track generations are not directly compatible.

This page covers coaster-specific Micro K’NEX parts: coaster cars, car links, track and launch systems. General Micro K’NEX rods, connectors, clips, chain, chain guides and gears are covered on their respective K’NEXCHANGE parts pages.

20590MRMetallic Red
20590GGold
20590SSilver
99906Black / Skull car

Several visually or functionally similar Micro K’NEX coaster cars occur under different part-number series. The exact relationship between all 24150-, 24151-, 24152- and 20590-series cars has not yet been fully established. They are therefore retained under their documented numbers rather than being presented as aliases.

Some additional finish and decoration variants are known from physical parts, including matte, glossy and decorated cars. Where an official suffix has not been independently verified, the physical variant is recorded without presenting the suffix as an official K’NEX part number.

The 24150-series is particularly significant historically. Orange and Green cars occur with the early Micro K’NEX parts used in Vertical Vengeance, while other colors show that this car family was not exclusive to that set.

Follower Coaster Cars (no pin)

Part numberColor
24157Red
24157Blue variant observed

Part 24157 is documented as a Coaster Car Follower. Some descriptions use the more general name Coaster Car.

The distinction is useful because follower cars do not have the same chain-engagement arrangement as standard chain-lift cars.

Underhung Coaster Cars

Part numberColor / type
24157XPurple — Underhung Coaster Car
2912001Yellow — Underhung Launcher Coaster Car

Underhung cars run beneath the coaster track rather than on top of it.

The Yellow 2912001 is a specialized launcher version used with the 24455 Yellow Motorized Launcher, including in Hyperspeed Hangtime.

It should not be treated simply as a Yellow version of 24157X: it belongs to a specific launcher arrangement.

Light-up and Special Coaster Cars

Part numberColor / type
99145Transparent — Light-up
99210G / 3310030Green — Light-up
99210Metallic Red
99906Black / Skull

The Transparent and Green cars are documented as Light-up Coaster Cars.

Part 99210 Metallic Red is also a confirmed Micro K’NEX coaster car, but its available description does not establish with sufficient certainty that it is a light-up version. It is therefore not automatically classified as one here.

Streamlined and Later Coaster Cars

Part numberColor / version
3194001Streamlined Coaster Car — Blue observed
3194001Streamlined Coaster Car — White observed
3310045Green — later 34042-series car

The 3194001 Streamlined Coaster Car occurs with later coaster designs and is also associated with the Stomp Rocket launcher system.

The later 3310045 car occurs in the 34042 parts generation. It is retained under its own number rather than assumed to be equivalent to one of the earlier coaster-car designs.

Coaster Car Link

Part numberPart
24161Micro K’NEX Coaster Car Link

The Coaster Car Link is used to connect Micro K’NEX coaster cars to form a train.

This is a coaster-specific component and is therefore included here rather than with general Micro K’NEX clips.

Micro K’NEX Coaster Track

Micro K’NEX coaster track is flexible and can be used to create hills, drops, loops, twists and other coaster elements.

Important: Pin and Slot Track

There are two important generations of Micro K’NEX coaster track.

Earlier track — pin-jointed: uses metal pins at one end and corresponding holes at the other.

Later track — slot/lug connection: uses molded plastic lugs and corresponding slots.

These versions are not directly compatible. Color alone therefore does not determine compatibility. Check the connection at the ends of the track before combining track from different sets.

203 mm Straight Track — No Pin

Part numberColor
847700Black
24351BBlue
24351LMid Blue
24351GGreen
99138OROrange
24351PPurple

24351WWhite
24351AYellow
847705Yellow / Fluorescent Yellow
847738Glow-in-the-dark
99138Color may vary

These track sections are approximately 203 mm / 8 in. long and use the later no-pin connection.

410 mm Straight Track — No Pin

Part numberColor
847716Green
23825ALight Blue
99167Orange
99165OOrange — additional number reported
99165Red
99147White
99157Yellow

These sections are approximately 410 mm / 16 in. long.

More than one Orange part number has been documented. The precise relationship between 99167 and 99165O has not yet been established sufficiently to treat them as aliases, so both are retained.

215 mm Pin-jointed Track

Part numberColor
23822HOrange

This shorter early track uses the pin-and-hole connection.

410 mm Pin-jointed Track

Part numberColor
23820RRed
23821Yellow
23822Orange
23823Green
23824Blue

These belong to the earlier metal-pin track generation.

The Yellow 23821 track is particularly associated with early Micro K’NEX construction, including Vertical Vengeance.

A Red example has also been recorded under 23821. Since other documented information identifies 23820R as Red and 23821 as Yellow, the Red 23821 observation is retained as an uncertainty rather than silently reassigned to another number.

Curve Left

Part numberColor
2447007Black
99903Blue
2447004Glow-in-the-dark
99168 / 2447001Green — old/new numbering
2447003Orange
2447008Red
99160WWhite
2447002Yellow
2447003XColor may vary

Curve Left is a separate molded track shape and should not be confused with the Semi-circle track.

Curve Right

Part numberColor
2448007Black
99159BBlue
2448004Glow-in-the-dark
99142 / 2448001Green — old/new numbering
99159MBMid Blue
2448003Orange
2448008Red
99159WWhite
99159 / 2448002Yellow
2448003XColor may vary

An Orange example associated with 2448008 has also been physically recorded, while other documented information identifies 2448008 as Red. Until that discrepancy is resolved, Red remains the documented color and the Orange observation is retained as an uncertainty.

Semi-circle Track

Part numberColor
847800Black
847801 / 99904Blue
99878BMid Blue
847816Green
99880 / 847808Orange
847838Glow-in-the-dark
847802Red
99878WWhite
847805 / 99879Yellow

Semi-circle track forms a much larger fixed curve than the individual Curve Left and Curve Right sections.

Some colors occur under more than one documented number. Where the exact relationship between those numbers has not yet been established, both numbers are retained rather than automatically treating them as aliases.

Later 34042 Track

Part numberTypeColor
3310049140 mm Straight TrackYellow
3310052125 mm Curved TrackYellow

These later track parts have different dimensions from the familiar 203 mm and 410 mm sections. They are therefore listed separately rather than treated as later numbers for the older track.

Launchers & Powered Coaster Systems

Micro K’NEX coaster sets have used several different systems to launch or propel coaster cars.

Red Motorized Launcher

Part numberColor
99164Red

The Red Motorized Launcher is used with launcher-specific coaster cars such as 24454C Red.

Two physically different 99164 launchers have been documented:

PIN-track connection

Slot-track connection

Both carry the same 99164 base number. The available part-number information does not clearly distinguish these physical versions, so compatibility should be checked from the actual launcher rather than from the number alone.

Red Launcher Coaster Car

Part numberColor
24454CRed

This car is specifically associated with the motorized launcher rather than the normal chain-lift arrangement.

Yellow Motorized Launcher

Part numberColor
24455Yellow

The Yellow Motorized Launcher uses the unusual 2912001 Yellow Underhung Launcher Coaster Car.

Unlike the Red 99164 launcher, separate PIN- and slot-connection versions of 24455 have not yet been verified.

Slingshot Launcher

Part numberPart
99890 / 99890YSlingshot Launcher

The Slingshot Launcher attaches to Micro K’NEX coaster track and uses a rubber band to propel the car.

The rubber band itself is a general K’NEX component and is therefore not cataloged here as a Micro coaster-specific part.

Stomp Rocket Launcher

Part numberPart
3195001Stomp Rocket Launcher Assembly

The Stomp Rocket Launcher is associated with later coaster designs and can be used with the 3194001 Streamlined Coaster Car.

Air-propelled Coaster System

Part numberPart
3092001Air-propelled Coaster Car & Cable
3092001BAir-propelled Coaster Car
3092001CCharging Cable

The air-propelled coaster car forms its own powered system and should not be confused with standard chain-lift or motorized-launcher cars.

Identification and Compatibility Notes

Micro K’NEX coaster parts span several generations. Part numbers alone do not always establish whether two visually similar parts are identical, whether a number changed during production, or whether a particular track connection is compatible.

K’NEXCHANGE therefore retains documented and physically observed variants when there is evidence that they exist, even where the exact relationship between two numbers or production versions has not yet been established.

In particular, check PIN versus slot track connections, coaster-car type and launcher type before combining parts from different Micro K’NEX coaster sets.
